00:01Hello. For the next few minutes I'm going to speak especially to those of you from organizations...
00:07...that develop custom GIS applications.
00:10We all know that sometimes end users need custom maps to do their work.
00:15Those of us who develop software know that building and deploying custom apps can present certain challenges.
00:23This year, Esri's answering those challenges by releasing the all-new ArcGIS Runtime.
00:30Let's look at what ArcGIS Runtime can do for you and your customers.
00:34This is an ArcGIS Runtime app, but I actually want to show you a different app first.
00:39I have this rugged, touch screen laptop, of the type that you often find mounted in a vehicle.
00:48Excuse me for a moment while I hook into the video system.
00:59Right. Looks like we're up. Great.
01:01Now, the user of this laptop has asked me to deploy a new application for hydrology analysis.
01:09This is a new directory where the application is going to reside.
01:13I have the application files on a network share.
01:18And with ArcGIS Runtime - whoops - with ArcGIS Runtime - let's try that again - what I wanted to say is...
01:28...with ArcGIS Runtime, deployment is as simple as copying - if I can figure out how to copy and paste...
01:37There's no DLLs to register, there's no installer to run.
01:41Once the app files are in place, that's all there is. The app is ready to run.
01:45Let's go ahead and run it.
01:46And as I run it, notice how quickly the application launches.
01:50I'm launching it now.
01:54See how fast that was! For those that missed it, let's do it one more time.
02:01Okay. ArcGIS Runtime - thank you. Oh, okay, yes, we are using a development license; okay.
02:08ArcGIS Runtime provides fast application start-up.
02:12It also provides high-quality, fast-performing basemaps.
02:17This map of geologic land types is being rendered from data on the device.
02:25ArcGIS Runtime supports both connected and disconnected use, both for mapping and for analysis.
02:33Let's run an example of analysis.
02:37With a tap on the map we can calculate the watershed for a given point.
02:43That watershed is being calculated from data on the device.
02:48So ArcGIS Runtime provides access to advanced GIS capabilities with fast performance and simple deployment.
03:00Now let's look at another example of an ArcGIS Runtime application.
03:04This one will also launch quickly for us.
03:09Now this application focuses on Army soldiers and Marines who need GIS in their vehicles...
03:16...but the general principle applies to any in-vehicle system.
03:21Since this app uses ArcGIS Runtime, it gives access to high-quality basemaps, imagery in this case...
03:28...as well as live tracking data.
03:31We see our current GPS location on the map, as well as friendly forces in the vicinity...
03:38...symbolized in standard military symbology which, along with other advanced symbology in ArcGIS...
03:44...is built into ArcGIS Runtime.
03:49Runtime also lets us perform data editing, such as these digital chemlights.
03:55Now, what's really impressive about ArcGIS Runtime is its ability to scale to massive amounts of live data.
04:03And to illustrate this let me give away a not-very-well-kept secret, and that is that of course...
04:09...we're simulating these blue forest locations.
04:11Let's turn up the speed of this simulator to push massive amounts of data to the application.
04:19And as you see the country start to fill up with these points, notice that the application...
04:24...continues to perform well and respond to my commands.
04:28This is a big benefit of ArcGIS Runtime.
04:32Finally, ArcGIS Runtime can run alongside other software you may have installed.
04:40For example, on this system we happen to have an old version of ArcGIS Desktop installed.
04:46It's 9.3.1, which is a few years old by now.
04:50ArcGIS Runtime is brand new.
04:52They run side by side! They don't conflict!
04:56[Applause]
04:58That means that you can quickly deploy Runtime applications to the field.
05:04In summary, we've looked at how you can use ArcGIS Runtime to build high-quality GIS applications...
05:13...that are simple to deploy, that perform well and that take advantage of the power of the ArcGIS system...
05:19...for displaying intelligent maps, managing data, and analyzing data to create new geoinformation products.
