00:01Good afternoon, everyone.

00:03Mike and Deane and many presenters have mentioned a point that going global is critical to our business.

00:09Multinational organizations have customers, assets, people all over the world.

00:14Their databases are full of information that have addresses, and they need to place them on a map to run their business.

00:20So Esri needs to provide them with geocoding capacity.

00:24But not just yet, just the web search, a real enterprise geocoding solution that supports both batch geocoding as well as search.

00:34And Esri has been providing geocoding capacity for the US and a few additional countries for many years.

00:40So why is it that we don't have it yet, right?

00:43Well because it is just a bit more complicated than it seems at first sight.

00:48Let me illustrate these points with three major issues we're dealing with, amongst the many that we have to deal with.

00:55The world is speaking many different languages and is using different alphabets...

01:01...which makes it impossible to apply just one model to all countries.

01:07We're...many countries are using different addressing systems, and we are very used to the US model...

01:11...where we have address number, street name, and then street type.

01:15But even without having to pick very exotic examples, just with these two from Germany and France...

01:20...we quickly understand that the US pattern doesn't work.

01:26Finally, not all countries are as lucky as the US, France, and Germany where street data is widely available...

01:33...nationwide very well maintained.

01:35But in many countries in the world, street data is available just for selected populated areas.

01:41But I have some good news for you.

01:43Esri is building a global geocoding solution, a solution that supports both structured and free text inputs.

01:51Esri has dedicated an entire team to building that solution.

01:55I would like to this afternoon to give you a sense of what this team is currently doing those days.

02:01First, for all countries for which NAVTEQ has street data available, we are building locators...

02:08...using the structure of an address in each of those countries.

02:13And what would already make a good juggling solution...

02:16...but what will turn this good juggling solution into a great and unique juggling solution...

02:20...is our network of local experts, our distributors.

02:25In engaging with each of them, we're able to gather and compute the detailed intelligence of how an address works in each country...

02:33...whether it's about managing aliases, exceptions, abbreviates...

02:37...whether it's about managing situations like multiple languages in one country...

02:41...or whether it's about managing exceptions within a country for just one given region.

02:46We're also testing those locators extensively with our local partners as well as with the selection of global users.

02:55But building the best address geocoding solution would not be enough to address all the geocoding needs.

03:01Part of this global geocoding initiative, we're also working on expanding the capacity of our world place finder...

03:09...adding more capacity to search for geographic features such as mountain ranges, rivers, and lakes...

03:15...as well as search for place of interest, building footprints, public buildings, and schools.

03:23But more importantly, offering to Linda as an English speaker, to Yuroon, my friend from Esri Netherlands...

03:29...or to Masaki-san in Japan, the capacity to search in their native language...

03:34...a key capacity for all of your mobile and web applications.

03:39And with the world already available at city and postal level and with 15 countries that we have completed at street level...

03:46...with very highly detailed information on the address...

03:50...Esri already outperforms any other company that claims being a geocoding expert on the market.

03:57But that's not all. Every month from now on, we'll be adding more countries to total 90 countries by the end of June.

04:06So we're building that solution for you so that you can build your global GIS enterprise solutions...

04:12...as well as your mobile and web applications.

04:14This capacity powers ArcGIS Online.

04:17It can also be consumed as an online web service.

04:20And will or soon you'll also have the capacity to license a global geocoding appliance to be installed behind a firewall.

04:26So if you have to have one take away from this conference...

04:30...Esri is building the solution that will allow you to place the pins on a map. Thank you very much.
