00:01The two areas that have really brought your work to the forefront are things about getting maps to the Web...
00:10...and also mobile components.
00:12Let's now go ahead and review ArcGIS Server and...
00:15...how we've continued to make improvements on that in order to make you more productive.
00:24See three elements up here, better maps, improved caching, and Web editing.
00:32Better maps on the Web all begin with one thing, you being able to create rich cartographic content and display that in map services.
00:42If you don't have really nice looking maps, do you think people want to go visit that location and use those day to day?
00:51I don't think so.
00:52What they want to do is they want to see those rich maps they're getting used to seeing on those consumer sites as well.
00:57You have the ability to publish those through the use of optimized map services...
01:03...that take advantage of Maplex or different cartographic representations.
01:08So you can create those and maintain those.
01:11Make those available for people to use.
01:14Second element that we're introducing at the 10 release is about animation.
01:19It's time based.
01:20It's about taking the ability of looking at the time component on that map and being able to play that back on the Web...
01:28...so people begin to understand an event as it is occurring or has occurred.
01:33Maybe looking at it for different types of planning or analysis.
01:37We'll actually do a demonstration on that a little later in the afternoon.
01:44Second or third component about this is about query layers.
01:48So that allows people to do direct SQL statements to the database that you're maintaining within [ArcGIS] Server...
01:55...and have the ability to access that content through those direct SQL calls.
02:01So we reviewed the better maps.
02:03What are the components on that rich cartographic representation?
02:08Now if you have the ability to produce that and have them have a fast, easy experience...
02:14...they're going to really want to come and use your sites.
02:18That's about better caching.
02:20So we continue to help build and improve those caching experiences so that you can have fast performance on the system.
02:27Additionally, we've also looked at the back office and the things you have to do to maintain...
02:31...and copy and move those map services which have lots of different types of pixels and caches.
02:38How do you take advantage of that?
02:39It's through the compact cache to copy and move it.
02:42What used to take some of you who have used [ArcGIS] Server hours to do is now you can copy and move that service in minutes...
02:51...making you more effective.
02:54Third component, and we actually did a little demonstration on that this morning, was about Web editing.
03:00So the feature services are now...you now have an editing feature service available to you at ArcGIS at the 10 release.
03:08So you expose people to be able to do simple edits to the map services that you have...
03:14...and the feature services that you want them to hit.
03:17It's a pretty exciting concept because it allows community involvement...
03:22...but also maybe participation within your organization to distribute out...
03:26...some editing tools and processes that you want people to work on via the Web interface.
03:32So a new place for you to become productive and gain insight on the information people are maintaining.
03:42Web applications though are the place where you bring a lot of this information together...
03:47...and you publish that using different types of Web application areas.
03:52There's the Adobe Flex, Silverlight, and JavaScript.
03:57How many of you have downloaded or used the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex?
04:04Have you seen the power? Yes.
04:05So what you see is the power of that viewer to bring in those maps and create an experience...
04:12...that people can generate different types of reports based upon that content, new charting methods, all fast and easy to use.
04:20Deploying that out for things like government transparency or within emergency operation centers.
04:27Additionally, [the ArcGIS API for Microsoft] Silverlight is available to offer this similar type of experience.
04:32ArcGIS Explorer Online is a Silverlight-based solution.
04:37We also have the ability to make that Web application available in JavaScript.
04:43And also within the [Microsoft] SharePoint by allowing maps to come into those SharePoint sites.
04:48It's pretty exciting because traditionally that's been about documents and different types of information.
04:54Now those map services can be embedded into those...SharePoint for those applications that you need.
Getting Information to the Web
At version 10, ArcGIS for Server helps you deliver better Web maps through better caching and Web editing. ArcGIS 10 also provides new and configurable Web applications.
