00:48In this video, we will show you how to make a map using your data inside Excel…
00:52…and how to share the map with your organization using ArcGIS Online.
00:57Here we have a workbook open in Excel with two spreadsheets.
01:01In one spreadsheet, we have average monthly spending on restaurants per household by ZIP code.
01:08In the second spreadsheet, we have a table of restaurants including their addresses.
01:12Since both these tables have location information, ZIP codes in one, and addresses in another…
01:18…it makes sense to geographically visualize this data, rather than seeing them in tables or in charts.
01:25To map this data, insert a map. You can change the title of the map.
01:31Now add the spreadsheet with monthly spending on restaurants, and zoom into the area for which the data was added.
01:39You can divide data into groups by choosing the Data Attribute, Grouping Method, and Number of Groups.
01:46Now add the second spreadsheet that has the restaurant's data.
01:52Select Style Option to customize the appearance points representing restaurant locations.
01:58You can choose to show data by a single icon, or divide them into groups of different sizes.
02:05You will see a lot of points on top of each other.
02:07To clean it up, you can click the Clustering button and create a clearer view.
02:12You can also generate a heat map from the address points.
02:15Now you're able to visualize the Excel data in a map, which is easier to understand and communicate to others.
02:22Now it's ready to share with others in your organization.
02:26You'll see a progress icon showing that it is publishing the map as a feature service to ArcGIS Online.
02:32Now if you go to your ArcGIS Online home page…
02:35…and go to your My Content page, you'll see your feature service listed there as one of your items…
02:40…and is ready to be used in a web map.
